The Potential of Prayer

kingdomedgeinc

One of my coworkers is the offense of coordinator for one of the local high schools. As we began to talk about his excitement for the season and the players who he has the honor of working with, it came to mind that as a pastor I should offer my services to both the coaches and players to be a team chaplain.

His response left me in dismay. It was not that the coach was anti-Christian, but he informed me that Ft. Wayne (the city in which we live) has essentially banned prayer in the locker rooms and on the field. The coach went on to tell me that he was informed of this after he said the Lord's prayer last year before one of their games.

He said, "the head coach came to me after he was finished and said 'we can't do that anymore.'" I don't think it's a coincidence that I had this conversation with him a week after two 14-year-old students and two teachers were killed in a mass shooting at Apalachee High School in Winder, Georgia. Imagine the difference it could have made if they had a school chaplain on staff. Several people in positions of leadership were notified about the potential danger of the student/shooter. Just imagine if there had been a "believer" to counsel and intercede on his behalf?

Mankind has spent so much time trying to remove God out of the public domain that they have not noticed that everywhere God has been removed, morality and respect for human life is removed as well. Our country has spent so much time legislating sin and then when catastrophe strikes people cry out "where was God?" — Remember… You removed him!!!!
